Report No. 15

Evaluating the Feasibility of Remote Sensing for Monitoring State of the Wet Tropics Environmental Indicators

Research Report
Stuart Phinn, Michael Stanford, Alex Held and Catherine Ticehurst

This report supersedes an earlier report on remote sensing and reviews and evaluates the capability and potential of commercially available remotely sensed data types for application in State of the Wet Tropics reporting processes.

Specifically, it includes an evaluation of the feasibility of satellite and airborne imaging techniques for monitoring State of the Wet Tropics indicators; recommendations for an optimal choice of remotely sensed data and processing methodology for monitoring such indicators; and suggested preliminary steps towards a framework for fully integrating remote sensing into monitoring programs in the Wet Tropics.
