Cultural Tourism in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area: A Strategic Overview for Bama

Research Report
Sarah Ignjic

Program 7 aimed to facilitate Aboriginal involvement in all facets of research and management so that there is recognition and respect for Aboriginal rights and interests. One of the goals of Program 7 was the cultural sustainability of the rainforest.

The Rainforest CRC, together with Traditional Owners of the Wet Tropics, saw a need to undertake a project that would help Rainforest Bama with tourism development in the Wet Tropics. The goal of the project was to identify practical strategies that would assist in cultural tourism development.

The Rainforest CRC contracted consultant Sarah Ignjic to carry out the research, community consultations and collation of this report and the views expressed in the report are those of the consultant and not necessarily those of the Rainforest CRC.

The Rainforest CRC would like to thank all of the Aboriginal people, government departments, Aboriginal organisations and other individuals and groups who assisted in the compilation of this Strategic Overview.
